Beat the January Blues

We’ve said goodbye to 2023 and hello to 2024. For most of us, the novelty of Christmas and New Year has already worn off as we’ve returned to work or university and the January blues are well and truly setting in - this wet, windy and miserable weather really isn’t helping either, is it? But not to worry, as always, Yourgaff have got your back! Here’s our top tips to beat the January blues this month…

Embrace the Power of Routine
First up, let's talk routines. I know, I know - "routine" sounds SO boring, but hear me out! Creating a daily routine can really set you up for the day. It's all about setting up small, achievable tasks that bring structure and a sense of accomplishment. So, set that alarm, make your bed, and before you know it, you’ll be feeling productive!

Try Something New
Trying something new is like adding a dash of spice to your life - it's the perfect antidote to the mundane. And what better time to do it than the first month of the new year? Always wanted to learn how to play an instrument? Go for it! Fancy learning to speak a new language? Now’s the time to do it! Embrace the new, and who knows, you might just find a hidden talent or a new passion.

Get Moving
Being active isn't just about getting those muscles moving; it's about boosting those happy hormones (hello, endorphins!). Whether it's a dance party in your living room, a brisk walk outside in nature, or a low-impact yoga session, find a way to get active. Once you’ve completed your work out of choice you’ll feel an instant boost in your mood.

Go on an Outdoor Adventure
We know you love the comfort of your accommodation (otherwise known as your gaff), but there's nothing quite like fresh air and the great outdoors to blow away the cobwebs. Wrap up warm, step outside, and let Mother Nature work her magic. A walk in the park, a hike through the woods, or even a stroll around the city walls can do wonders. Chester is so picturesque and has so many walks both inside and outside of the city centre…take advantage of them!

Walking in Nature
Speaking of nature, let's get specific. Walking in nature is like a natural happy pill. The combination of fresh air, the beauty of the outdoors, and gentle exercise is a triple threat against the gloominess of January. Whether it’s a gentle stroll by the river Dee or a run around Grosvenor Park, let the natural world be your playground.

January really doesn't have to be a drag! By incorporating some of these tips into your daily life, you’ll be well on your way to turning this month into a time of joy, discovery, and rejuvenation. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and be kind to yourself. Here's to a blues-free January!
