Summer room decoration inspiration

As we transition from spring to summer, the weather is getting warmer and the sun is shining brightly. It's a great time to update your room décor to match the season. To help you out, I have a few tips to share with you on how you can spruce up your room decoration for the upcoming season.

As a self-proclaimed expert in room decoration, I will give you a rundown of all of my favourite spots and shops in Chester to pick up all you need to complete your room transformation.

Flowers, Greenery, and all that good stuff!

There’s no better way to start this off than becoming a plant parent. Although this job comes with responsibilities, it is well worth it when your room has that botanical feel that fits the summer months. Not only are they going to add a pop of colour to the room, but they are also long-lasting (If cared for properly!) and can last for summers to come.

To add more charm to your plant, you might like to consider buying a unique pot or, even better, painting one yourself! If you choose to do the latter, gather your friends and head to Grosvenor Park to paint together. It sounds like a perfect activity to enjoy on a sunny day!

If potted plants aren’t for you, then why not brighten up your room with a vase of flowers? Lilies, Roses, or whatever is best suited for you can add that ‘fresh as a daisy’ feel to your room which is perfect to come home to after a day in the sun. As the flowers are the gift that keeps on giving, it doesn’t stop there. I always keep hold of my flowers to either dry or press them as they make the perfect decoration for a summer scrapbook or artwork. I would recommend this fun and creative way of adding a personal touch to your room’s décor.

Get Creative with Vinyl's!

Although you’re probably questioning how vinyl’s can be used to decorate your room for the summer, I am here to provide you with the answer. I was introduced to this idea via a friend and ever since have been doing it myself and for others ever since. It’s a fun process and a great pastime for those who love to get creative.

The initial step is to select your favourite things' photos, whether it's your dog, cat, friends, or anything else you like. Then, visit the charity shops (Chester has many options to choose from) and look for old vinyl records. Print the pictures, get your glue stick, and create a photo collage on the vinyl. These make excellent summer decorations for music and art enthusiasts and serve as wonderful keepsakes from your time at the University of Chester.

Bundles of Bunting!

One way to add some liveliness to a room is by using bunting. During summer, festivals are all the rage. So, why not bring that vibe to your room by adding bunting to the walls, doors, or wherever you like? I personally prefer floral or gingham print bunting as it adds a fun feeling to my room. However, the options are endless and can be colour-matched to whatever aesthetic you're going for. You could even make your own by using Polaroids or a sewing kit to add a creative touch.

Whatever you choose to do, just have fun with it and keep that same mindset for the summer.

Where to shop:

Oliver Bonas: Oliver Bonas is located on Bridge Street, and it is one of my all-time favourite places to pick up trinkets or gifts for my friends. If you love bright and colourful things, then this is the perfect place for you. I particularly love the unique vases they offer, though they are priced on the higher side. However, as a student, you can take advantage of a 10% discount, so be sure to visit and make the most of it!

Søstrene Grene: Søstrene Grene is a store located in the Grosvenor Shopping Centre that offers contemporary and affordable furnishings. It is the kind of place where you would want to buy everything you see, from stylish bunting to candle holders. I highly recommend visiting this store for anyone interested in home décor. Don't miss out on the chance to check it out this summer!

Primark: I couldn’t have written this list without mentioning Primark! The home selection offers so many amazing products at affordable prices, perfect for any student looking to decorate. Their selection of goods never disappoints so definitely head to Primark and grab them before they go!
